A brief history of the Party…

Our history from formation as a Parliamentary pressure group in 1900 to our first ever third-term election in 2005, has been filled with achievements that have changed the face of Britain and the lives of British people. The creation of the National Health Service, the enshrining in law of equality of opportunity and the creation and maintenance of a welfare state were all delivered by Labour during only 32 years in power of our 120 year history.
We have over this time developed into a mass membership party with the most modern campaigning techniques.
However the lesseons we can draw from our history are not all positive. On occasions we have also been the victims of division and disunity which, in electoral terms we all know, has cost us dear. It has allowed the Tories to win and undermine our achievements.
The Labour Party has grown from nothing into a formidable political organisation and one which has achieved major social and politcal reforms.
Since 2010 under the divisive policies of the Tories, working people have suffered from the consequences of an economy that isn’t working for the majority and cuts so deep to public services that they have been reduced to breaking point.
Labour is committed to delivering real reform that will ensure our values of fairness, equality and social justice become rooted in our culture so that we can achieve lasting social, economic and political change.
