We promised that we’d take action to recruit 1,000 more GPs and fix the front door of the NHS.
And we’re delivering. Today, we have announced the recruitment of an extra 1,503 GPs since October.
When we came into office, patients were struggling to see their GP, while ludicrous red tape was stopping surgeries from hiring doctors. We have taken swift action by slashing red tape and investing more into our NHS, delivering better services for patients.
An extra 1,503 GPs means more appointments for patients, turning the tide on a decade of cuts under the Tories.
This government has also made the first deal with GPs since the pandemic, backed by an extra £889 million. Alongside the investment, we are reforming the NHS, to bring back the family doctor and end the 8am scramble.
This doesn’t mean our work is done – there is still loads to do to rebuild our NHS. But through our Plan for Change, we have put the NHS on the road to recovery.
That’s not all. We have already delivered over two million extra appointments since July – fulfilling our promise seven months early – and the waiting list is down by 193,000.
Thank you for your support for our Plan for Change. Together, we are doing what we promised at the general election – getting our NHS back on its feet and making it fit for the future.
Change has begun. And the best is still to come.
