WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY – COMMEMORATION

Sunday morning 28 April I joined colleagues from across the labour and trade union movement to commemorate International Workers Memorial Day, and lay a wreath on behalf of Crewe and Nantwich Labour Party, at Crewe Cemetery.

IWMD is a day where we remember all those, past and present, who have suffered serious illness or sadly passed away as a result of conditions suffered at work.

We can look to recent examples during the Covid-19 pandemic or historical examples such as the many examples of asbestos poisoning and other injuries or illnesses experienced by those who worked at the Crewe Works.  I hope a future government can deliver improved protections for workers so that those who work don’t have to fear for their safety when they do so.
